Japanese Gardens Community Pool Upgrade

The residential community of Japanese Gardens in South Venice, Florida was the site of the first commercial installation of a Symbiont Geo-Thermal pool heating system, in March, 1983.

The 49,000-gallon swimming pool, with a nighttime pool cover in the winter, was heated to 84 o F by one (1) Symbiont™ DWWPH-005 Geo-Thermal Heat Pump, extracting heat from a 120’ deep aquifer well.

The pool was cooled in the summer through the utilization of a system of water crossover valves, and the overall performance was excellent.

Symbiont Service Corp. calculated the current annual cost of operation and savings for heating with and without a nighttime pool cover in cold weather to be approximately:

With Nighttime Cover
$3,011.00 with LP Gas
$574.00 with the Symbiont
$2,437.00 Savings

No Nighttime Cover
$5,640.00 with LP Gas
$1,075.00 with the Symbiont
$4,565.00 Savings

In February 1999 a second Symbiont™ Geo-Thermal unit, a model PHH-075-RV, with reverse-cycle heating and cooling accessory, was added in parallel with the original unit, and the source water well pump was increased from three-quarter horsepower to one horsepower.

The upgraded system, now approximately double its original BTU heating capacity, will easily maintain the pool at 84oF throughout the winter without the use of a nighttime cover. The crossover valve system for changing from pool heating to summer pool cooling has been removed, and now the change over is accomplished by the flick of a switch.
